June 23, 2003: Sasha's owners left the house and Sasha was fine. When they returned she was lying on the floor and she couldn't get up. Sasha's owners took her to the vet, hoping for the best but believing that they were going to have to have her euthanized. For anyone who loves their pet, this scenario is a nightmare. Fortunately, Sasha's story has a happy ending.
Sasha's veterinarian referred her to Georgia Veterinary Specialists, where they diagnosed a herniated disc at C4-5. She had surgery to correct the problem. Two weeks after surgery, Sasha was still non-ambulatory. Surgery alone wasn't enough to get her back on her feet. What Sasha needed was Physical Rehabilitation.
July 19, 2003: Sasha's first visit to Caring Canine. At Sasha's first visit, she had a full evaluation and her first Physical Rehabilitation treatment in the underwater treadmill. This was to be the first of many visits, and a lot of work on the part of Sasha, her Rehab team, her owners, and her veterinarian.
September 12, 2003: Sasha stands on her own for the first time!
September 15, 2003: Sasha takes her first unassisted steps.
October 2003: Sasha is able to walk up to 80 feet with the assistance of a sling, and up to 200 feet if she takes short rest breaks
And that wasn't the end of Sasha's improvement. By January Sasha was walking on her own, and by August, Sasha was playing with the children in her household and able to go in and out of the dog door on her own. She was back to being a regular dog.
