Duchess When Duchess arrived on April 9, 2004, she could not move her hind legs. She needed assistance to walk.

Duchess was depressed. Her coat was in poor condition- she had open sores and had significant atrophy of the rear limbs. It was hard to believe that Duchess would ever have a good quality of life, but there were signs that with proper treatment and time she could improve. Caring Canine's Rehabilitation Staff worked closely with the Vets at Loving Touch Animal Center to treat Duchess. Her treatments included physical rehabilitation, acupuncture (pictured below) and conventional veterinary medicine.

Within weeks, Duchess showed signs of improvement. Her rear got stronger and she began to be able to move her rear paws, especially her left rear. Her coat improved. She became interested in her surroundings, actively seeking out her favorite people and working for treats. By late October Duchess was able to walk on her own, and was able to move from a sit to stand without assistance.

By January 2005, Duchess was able to not only walk without assistance, but also to pull on the leash! Her coat became full, shiny and beautiful. Her attitude was excellent and she enjoys playing with other dogs. |
