Daisy is an active, athletic, Australian Shepherd; she was 2 years old when she went chasing after a squirrel and injured herself. When Daisy returned from the chase, she wasn't weight bearing on her right hind leg. Daisy 's vet referred her to Georgia Veterinary Specialists where she was seen by Dr. Allen Cross.
Dr. Cross diagnosed Daisy with a 100% tear of her right caudal cruciate ligament, and a 20% tear of her right cranial cruciate ligament. Dr. Cross performed an extra capsular repair on October 20, 2003. Due to the severity of Daisy's injuries, even though the surgery went very well, Daisy was given a guarded prognosis. Dr. Cross referred Daisy to Caring Canine Rehabilitation Center and when she came here she was seen by Dr. Michelle Tilghman.

Daisy's treatment consisted of Underwater Treadmill, Ultrasound, Cold, and a variety of other Therapeutic Exercises. Several of Daisy's exercises were geared toward improving proprioception (body extremity awareness) so that she would be less likely to injure herself in the future. Daisy's treatment was a success! Daisy was able to quickly return to being an active dog -- something critical for a dog who loves to move like Daisy does. She has full functionality in the limb. Daisy went back into training (pictured right) and not only returned to agility competition, but also won High In Trial at a Novice Agility trial! Daisy earned her Novice Agility Title on April 25, 2004- a mere six months following her surgery.

Update from May 2009- Daisy is nearly eight years old now, and still competes from time to time in performance events. She still comes to Loving Touch Animal Center for periodic chiropractic and acupuncture 'tune-ups' to keep her in competition-ready condition. Thanks to Caring Canine, Loving Touch Animal Center, Georgia Veterinary Specialists and the dedication of Daisy's mom, Daisy has amassed quite a few titles behind her name. She is currently known as:
